Carrier Analysis launches new performance audit for transport providers

14 October 2005

Carrier Analysis Limited is a new company providing an independent audit service to evaluate the systems and performance of logistics companies, carriers, and freight forwarders throughout Europe. Carrier Analysis will administer the Carrier Analysis Provider Audit (CAPA) Programme, a one-day, on-site audit of road transport provider operations.

Carrier Analysis has been formed by transport specialists for transport specialists to answer a pressing need from shippers for an independent, verifiable common service standard for transport providers. In an era of heightened security shippers want to deal with certified suppliers that they can trust. The CAPA audit programme developed and administered by Carrier Analysis will provide this vital seal of trust.

The CAPA Programme examines seven key areas of operation:
  • Operational Controls
  • Security
  • Employment & Training
  • Drivers Hours Management
  • Vehicle Maintenance
  • Health & Safety
  • Quality Management
Successful completion of the audit process brings with it CAPA Certification for the Transport Provider, which is then re-validated every two years. CAPA Certification is a Europe-wide mark of best practice in transport operations differentiating a transport provider from non-compliant competitors.

CAPA audits will be undertaken in conjunction with Carrier Analysis' partner company SGS, the world's leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company ensuring that the CAPA Programme audits are available to a consistent quality standard in all international markets.

The CAPA programme launches with the endorsement and support of Freight Traders Limited, Europe's largest and most effective on-line procurement service provider for freight services. It has been developed in close cooperation with Freight Traders and their community of shippers and carriers. Commenting on the launch of the CAPA programme by Carrier Analysis, Garry Mansell, Managing Director of Freight Traders said, "This initiative is long overdue and we are very happy to have supported the development of this ground breaking standard for our industry. Although we pride ourselves on the quality of the Freight Traders carrier community our shipper members have for some time been seeking an additional consistent, single quality standard that allows them to compare carriers, CAPA delivers this. For a quality standard to be useful it must be independent and available to all carriers, not just those in our community. The programme fills this need and I am confident that the CAPA mark will be appearing on web sites, stationery and equipment throughout Europe very soon."

For Carrier Analysis, Gordon Linington, Director said, "Evaluating the performance standards of multiple carriers across Europe is too time consuming and costly for shippers to undertake. Most companies rely on past experience of carriers or the positive endorsement of other shippers, often based on nothing more than 'word of mouth' - there has to be a better way. The CAPA Programme developed by Carrier Analysis provides the 'better way'.

"It provides the logistics companies that participate in the Programme with a range of benefits relating to Europe wide recognition of a transport provider's competence, expertise and professionalism. It's a 'win-win' situation for all concerned and we anticipate considerable success for the Programme".

Ends.
